Tropical Modernism is known for its wide, open spaces, increased ventilation, a focus on local resources, and building materials with cooling factors. The trend is a clear relative of the highly popular style of Modernism.

For South Africans, Modernism is almost indiscernible as a style, so intrinsic is it to decaying inner-city neighbourhoods such as Hillbrow.

To create a softer, more natural space within a heavily urban context.  The use of curved and panelled walls creates an organic flow to the space, allowing one area to gently transition to another

Features to include:  deep verandas, patterned floor, cement cast, slatted timber, matt black and natural stone.

Textures and colours to include:  walnut tones, woven natural fibers, cast cement, honed matt granite, pops of color ,unexpected detail, sense of humor , curved details, leather

matt fabrics.
